Two new members inducted into Glen Ridge Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Glen Ridge has inducted two new members, Bob Hayes and Cherry Provost. The ceremony was conducted by former District Gov. Bob Pityo.
Hayes and Provost have a number of things in common: both graduated the same year from college, Hayes from Dartmouth and Provost from Brown, and both moved to Glen Ridge 50 years ago. Hayes and Provost have been honored previously by the Rotary Club for their civic contributions.
Hayes was employed by Equitable Life, now AXA Equitable Investments Management. He has been involved in a wide range of civic activities, including two terms serving as president of the Civic Conference Committee, head of the Congregational Church Council, co-chairman of Glen Ridge Library fundraising, and numerous other activities. Since his retirement 22 years ago, he became an EMT and has been a mainstay of the Glen Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Squad, keeping it an innovative and viable unit.
“Over the years, I’ve been impressed with what the Rotary Club has stood for, as well as what they have accomplished,” said Hayes.
After a career as a textile designer for Cohama Fabrics, Provost has had a long and varied volunteer career in Montclair, as well as Glen Ridge. She served two terms on the Board of Education, served as chairwoman of the committee that obtained the Historic District Commission and was co-chair of fundraising efforts to install the Sunny Crest Fencing at Freeman Garden. For 20 years, she she has been a visible gardener for the South End Association. She became interested in Rotary through her husband, Lloyd, who was a member and president of the Glen Ridge Rotary Club.
