Glen Ridge, NJ Navigator

As part of the statewide Heroes and Cool Kids Program, members of the Student Leadership Team of Glen Ridge High School visited all fifth-graders at Ridgewood Avenue School on Jan. 28 to emphasis the importance of sportsmanship as opposed to the practice of bullying.
The team divided into groups and each group went to a fifth-grade classroom and spoke with students about the characteristics of a bully, identifying bully behavior, myths and facts about bullying, and the definitions of bullying and sportsmanship. Attention was also given to Internet bullying.
The message of the group that visited each classroom was strong and simple. They shared their personal experiences with the students and came up with problem-solving scenarios.
