The Glen Ridge Athletic Association Fifth-Grade Girls’ Basketball Team won the Suburban League Championship by beating West Essex, 16-7, in a hard-fought game recently.
The win gave the team a perfect 14-0 record to cap an excellent season of play.
The success of the team is attributed to the dedication of the girls and their coaches, support of parents and community at large and the commitment to basic skill development.
The 12-team members and two coaches worked together from the start of the season and endured classic games, including a double-overtime game to start the season against Nutley.
The girls averaged 25 points for the season and held teams under 12 by playing aggressive team defense and a basic give-and-go offense. All girls contributed to the team’s overall success and used the experience from the solid fundamental program developed while in the Third and Fourth Grade GRAA Winter Program.
