Michael D’Onofrio, Staff WriterThe Women’s Club has always been a cynosure for the community of Glen Ridge. Throughout the year, the members pursue and organize cultural events, fundraisers and activities for a variety of different causes. The Women’s Club will continue this tradition on March 26 when it hosts Girls’ Night Out, a new fundraising event for the awareness and prevention of breast cancer.
The event sprung from a long-time member of the Women’s Club, Charlotte Forrest, who is one of the chairwomen for the Community Service Department at the Club. She is directing the event with Karen Winslow, another veteran of the Club for more than 10 years. Although the Girls’ Club has held breast cancer fundraisers in the past, this is the first of its kind for the Women’s Club.
The purpose of the event is clear and unequivocal, said Forrest: “It is for all of the women in Glen Ridge to stand together and shout out with their powerful and collective voices that ‘We are all sister’s in this fight.’ We want to support and pay tribute to the many women in our own community who have been affected by breast cancer.”
