High School Sports GRHS girls' basketball team works hard against tough foes

The Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity basketball team has had its share of setbacks this season.

The Lady Ridgers recently had a 4-11 overall record and a 2-8 record in the Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division, which is the second highest of the four divisions.

High School Sports GRHS boys' hoops defeat Cedar Grove; swimmers shine at ECC; hockey players lead win; girls' hoops lose to WO

Junior forward Solomon Givens scored 14 points and junior guard Devin Garrity and senior forward Dan DiGioia each had seven points to lead the Glen Ridge High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 39-37 home win over Cedar Grove this past Tuesday. The Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity basketball team hopes to regroup from two losses last week.

Mary Alati scored eight points and Danielle Lisovicz had seven points for the Ridgers in a 62-21 home loss to powerhouse Shabazz on Jan. 17.

High School Sports GRHS wrestling team preps for ECT

The Glen Ridge High School varsity wrestling team will gear up for the Essex County Tournament on Friday Jan. 27 and Saturday Jan. 28 at Codey Arena in West Orange.

The Ridgers have a young team this season, with 13 of 16 wrestlers in the ninth or 10th grade. In addition, five are first-time wrestlers.

Despite the struggles, the Ridgers continue to work hard and maintain high spirits, GRHS head coach Kendall Southerland said.

High School Sports GRHS girls' hoop team snaps skid

Caroline Thiele scored eight points and Mary Alati, Eileen McAuley and Caroline Smith each had six points to lead the Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity basketball team to a 44-16 win over Science Park on Jan. 12 in Newark.

With the win, the Lady Ridgers snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-5.

The Glen Ridge High School boys’ varsity basketball team hopes to turn around its season after losing five straight recently.

Jamie Smith scored 16 points and Solomon Givens had 10 points in the 45-43 home loss to Nutley on Jan. 12.

Glen Ridge seniors Matt Lander and Max Linnett sparked the Verona/Glen Ridge high school varsity ice hockey team to wins over West Orange, Millburn and Bernards, all at Codey Arena in West Orange.

The Glen Ridge High School boys’ varsity basketball team lost to Livingston and Cedar Grove.
